July is a busy month for Germans from Russia events!

First, the 50th International Convention of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia will take place July 22-27th in Lincoln, Nebraska. For more information, visit https://www.ahsgr.org/page/Conventions.

Can’t make the AHSGR convention in Nebraska? How about the 2nd Annual Chislic Festival in Freeman, South Dakota? This festival occurs July 27th and features chislic and craft beer along with a variety of other festival foods. For more information, visit https://www.sdchislicfestival.com.

Lastly, don’t forget about the 49th Annual Germans from Russia Heritage Society International Convention taking place July 31st – August 3rd in Fargo, North Dakota. Hosted by the Germans from Russia Heritage Society Board of Directors and the Die Deutsche Glieder Chapter, this annual conference includes presentations, a tour of the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center and more. Northern State University’s own Dr. Virginia Lewis will be presenting. Her presentation, titled “Letters from Bessarabian Refugees to the Pfitzer Family in Java, South Dakota: Desperation Meets Generosity in Post WWII Germany”, will discuss her work translating 20th century Bessarabian refugee letters.
