About this Collection

This collection was donated by the Roesch family, whose ancestors came to the United States from Russia in 1898 and settled near Roscoe, S.D. The collection includes many letters from family back in Russia, as well as German books, photographs and miscellaneous artifacts. This collection provides insight into early homesteader life in SD, as well as the conditions encountered by those ethnic Germans who stayed in Russia.
